A pair of Augustana basketball players have swept the weekly basketball honors for the southern division of the Northern Sun Conference.
For the fifth time this season, Augustana women’s basketball senior guard Shaunteva Ashley was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s South Division Player of the Week.
She helped lead the Vikings to a 2-0 record, its first weekend sweep of 2015, over the weekend against NSIC South Division foes Winona State and Upper Iowa. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native put up a game-high 27 points in a 74-71 upset win over the Warriors at the Sioux Falls Arena on Friday night. She finished the game shooting 8 of 15, which included going a perfect 11 of 11 from the foul line, and also added four rebounds and six assists in 37 minutes of action.
The senior then turned in an 18-point, five-rebound, four-assist performance in an 87-65 victory against the Peacocks on Saturday.
Augustana College junior forward Casey Schilling was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. This marks the third time this season Schilling has earned South Division player of the week honors.
Schilling, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward from Ellsworth, Minn., averaged 23 points, 7.5 rebounds and three steals while shooting 67 percent from the field, helping the Vikings to two wins on the weekend. He also shot 80 percent (4-of-5) from 3-point range and knocked down 10-of-16 from the free throw line.
Schilling opened the weekend with 25 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 97-68 win over Winona State. Schilling knocked down a career-high four 3-pointers in the win over WSU going 4 for 4 from behind the arc. He was also 8 of 12 from the field and hit 5 of 10 from the free throw line in the victory.
Schilling then picked up his 10th 20-point game of the season, the 21st in his career, as he finished with 21 in a 92-81 win over Upper Iowa. Schilling added eight rebounds, two steals and one assist while going 8 of 12 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line.
