The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Tuesday that Augustana’s Caitlin Nichol and Jenelle Trautmann have been named statistical champions following the 2015 softball season.

Nichol led the nation with 23 home runs last season and Trautmann drove in an NCAA-leading 72 RBI for the Vikings in 2015.

Nichol, a senior third baseman from Davenport, Iowa, set a single-season record at Augustana while leading all of NCAA Division II with 23 home runs last season. She added 13 doubles and 54 RBI out of the leadoff spot in the order for the Vikings and finished her season batting .443 with an .833 slugging percentage and a .518 on-base percentage. She also set a single-season record at Augustana scoring 84 runs in 2015.

Trautmann, a senior pitcher/utility player from Hastings, Minn., drove in an NCAA-leading 72 runs while batting .407. Trautmann finished the year with 68 hits, including 20 home runs and 10 doubles. She compiled an .826 slugging percentage and a .546 on-base percentage. Trautmann finished her career at Augustana with 75 career home runs, which ranks second all-time in NCAA Division II history.

Augustana has had an individual statistical champion in two straight seasons. Carley Pickett led all of NCAA Division II with nine saves in 2014.   Augustana finished the 2015 season with a record of 53-11, marking the ninth 50-plus win season in program history (third under ninth-year head coach Gretta Melsted). The Vikings finished 28-2 in NSIC play and won its third regular season NSIC Championship, securing the 12th conference title in program history. Augustana made its sixth straight and 23rd overall NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015.
