Augustana College ranks 14th in the final winter release of the 2014-15 Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings.
Augustana has accumulated 344.25 points and is just .75 points behind Minnesota State who ranks 13th.
Augustana received 50 points from the men’s basketball team’s trip to the semifinals of the NCAA Central Region Tournament. The Viking wrestling program earned 60.75 points towards the total with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, which included a runner-up finish by TJ North in the 125-pound bracket.
Women’s indoor track and field earned 48.5 points with a 23rd place finish at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham.
Augustana earned 185 points during the fall season after receiving 25 points for finishing 33rd in the women’s soccer national tournament after the Vikings earned the third seed in the NCAA Central Region Tournament, making the first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008.
Men’s cross country earned 85 points towards Augustana’s total in the Learfield Cup Standings with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships last Saturday. The Vikings have placed in the top four at the NCAA Championships for three straight seasons, including back-to-back third-place finishes in 2013 and 2014.
Women’s cross country earned 75 points after a fifth-place performance at the national championships last weekend. Augustana women’s cross country has placed in the top five at the NCAA Championships for four straight seasons, including the 2011 National Championship and second-place finish in 2012.
Augustana is one of three teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference ranked in the top 20. Minnesota State ranks 14th with 295 points, and Minnesota Duluth ranks 20th with 255.5 points.
Last year, Augustana finished seventh in the final Learfield Cup Standings, marking its fourth straight top-10 finish.
