Augustana College qualified 11 teams for NCAA postseason play in 2014-15 and finished 10th in the final Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings.
Augustana earned 569.25 points to record its fifth straight top-10 finish in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings. Grand Valley State claimed its 10th Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, including its second straight after winning the award in 2013-14.
Ashland finished second, followed by Central Missouri in third, Lewis in fourth and Minnesota State University, Mankato in fifth. Augustana is one of just two NSIC schools to finish in the top 10 in 2014-15.
Augustana earned 225 points in the spring with five teams advancing to NCAA postseason play. Women’s golf made a return to the NCAA Championships, making its seventh trip in eight seasons, and finished 11th to earn 66 points for Augustana. The Viking softball team made its sixth straight and 23rd overall NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015 advancing to the Central Super Regional for the second straight season. The Vikings finished ninth in the country and earned 64 points towards the Learfield Cup Standings. Women’s outdoor track and field qualified six individuals for the national championship and earned 46.5 points with a 26th place finish. Men’s outdoor track and field qualified three for the NCAA Track Championship and earned 23.5 points with a 48th place finish. Women’s tennis advanced to the NCAA Central Region Championship for the sixth straight season and earned 25 points towards the Learfield total with 33rd place finish nationally. Augustana received 50 points from the men’s basketball team’s trip to the semifinals of the NCAA Central Region Tournament during the winter. The Viking wrestling program picked up 60.75 points with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, which included a runner-up finish by TJ North in the 125-pound bracket. Women’s indoor track and field earned 48.5 points with a 23rd place finish at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala. Augustana earned 185 points during the fall season after receiving 25 points for finishing 33rd in the women’s soccer national tournament after the Vikings earned the third seed in the NCAA Central Region Tournament, making the first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008. Men’s cross country earned 85 points towards Augustana’s total in the Learfield Cup Standings with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships. The Vikings have placed in the top four at the NCAA Championships for three straight seasons, including back-to-back third-place finishes in 2013 and 2014. Women’s cross country earned 75 points after a fifth-place performance at the national championships. Augustana women’s cross country has placed in the top five at the NCAA Championships for four straight seasons, including the 2011 National Championship and second-place finish in 2012. Last year, Augustana finished seventh in the final Learfield Cup Standings.
