August is the most active month for bats in Nebraska.
The state health department reports it also performs the most rabies tests on bats during this time.
Doctor Tom Safranek says rabies is usually fatal, so a test is needed, if there was possible human contact.

Safranek says coming in contact with rabies requires fast action.

He says untreated rabies usually causes death.
