Augustana University has secured the Mayor’s Cup Challenge for the fifth straight season.

The Vikings won the 2016-17 Mayor’s Cup Challenge defeating the University of Sioux Falls 12.5-6.5.

The Mayor’s Cup Challenge began in 2012-13 and Augustana has won the head-to-head competition every season. The Vikings won 13-6 in its inaugural season in 2012-13 before winning 14-15 in 2013-14, 11.5-7.5 in 2014-15 and 14.5-3.5 last season.

In 2016-17, Augustana won head-to-head competitions over USF in volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s indoor track and field, women’s tennis, men’s golf, women’s golf, softball and women’s outdoor track and field. Augustana earned half a point in men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball as all three teams split the season series’.
