The battle of Sioux Falls is coming this weekend.
Augustana College football (3-2, 0-1 NSIC South) returns home Saturday to take on No. 20 University of Sioux Falls (5-0, 1-0 NSIC South). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
The Vikings are coming off a tough road loss to unbeaten Upper Iowa last week where the Peacocks held on for a 31-25 victory. USF picked up a 38-9 victory over Concordia-St. Paul at home last weekend.
Augustana and Sioux Falls will compete for a traveling trophy in the third annual “Key to the City” game. The trophy is a four-foot tall key that was made by local wood carver Arne Bortnem. Augustana and USF play for one of the six traveling trophies between NSIC teams. For a complete history of traveling trophies in the NSIC, click HERE.
Also on the line this weekend will be a point in the First Dakota National Bank “Mayor’s Cup Challenge” standings.
The Mayor’s Cup Challenge is an annual head-to-head competition between the Augustana and USF athletic departments and their fans which pits 16 common, equally weighted sports to determine which school and their fan base can claim bragging rights for that year. Augustana has won the point-based competition in two straight seasons.
