It was an early exit for favored Augustana in their conference women’s soccer tourney.

No. 2 seed Augustana soccer couldn’t overcome severe winds and a motivated No. 7 seed Minnesota Duluth in a 1-0 loss of a quarterfinal match at the US Bank/Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament on Wednesday.

The Vikings’ record fell to 14-5 on the year in defeat, while the Bulldogs improved to 9-9-1 with the win. Augustana finished the match with a 15-12 shot advantage over UMD, losing its first match this year when outshooting its opponent (11-1). The Vikings’ loss keeps their all-time postseason wins total at zero (0-6).

Kailey Beatt scored the lone goal of the match, her first of the season, in the 39th minute of the first half. Payton Pry, recently named All-NSIC first team, led Augustana with four shots, one on frame on Wednesday. The Vikings’ loss is the first this year at Morstad Field, snapping a nine-game winning streak the team had previously been on dating back to 2013

The Vikings now will take a wait to see if they are selected for NCAA Central Region Tournament play, though they were ranked third in the latest NCAA Regional rankings that came out on Wednesday afternoon.
