Augustana baseball’s Patrick O’Donnell was named a First Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Monday.
He led the Vikings, and ranked third nationally, in hitting this season with a batting average of .468. O’Donnell started 53 games this season for the Vikings and amassed 102 hits.
He is the first player in school history with at least 100 hits in a single season. O’Donnell earned 23 doubles, four triples and hit 11 home runs in 2016 while driving in 62 runs and scoring 61 of his own.
O’Donnell had an exceptional season on the diamond for the Vikings as he etched his name on numerous single season records including batting average, slugging percentage (.761), hits, third most runs scored, fifth in triples and tied for third in most RBIs.
O’Donnell has earned numerous accolades after his successful junior campaign. Those honors include being a D2CCA First Team All-American, NCBWA First Team All-American, First Team All-NSIC member, NCBWA All-Region First Team selection, a First Team D2CCA All-Central Region honoree and a semifinalist for the Tino Martinez D2 National Player of the Year award.
