Augustana baseball’s senior first baseman Kris Ashland has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday for the first time in his career.
Ashland becomes the fourth Viking this season to earn the award.
Ashland, a native of Bloomington Minn., had a career weekend at the plate for Augustana in the Vikings 4-game sweep of the University of Mary. Ashland crushed four home runs, including two in game one of the series, while posting a weekend batting average of .500. Of his seven hits, four were home runs and two were doubles. The power he displayed over the weekend gave him a 1.500 slugging percentage. Ashland also drove in nine RBIs and posted an on-base percentage of .533.
During his breakout 2017 campaign Ashland is hitting .377 with 20 hits, six three home runs, and two doubles. He has driven in 15 RBIs, second-most on the team, and scored 12 runs. He has a slugging percentage of .755 and an on-base percentage of .433.
