An Augustana  College assistant coach is getting a head coaching job.

Augustana College head men’s basketball coach Tom Billeter announced the resignation of assistant men’s basketball coach Jeff Trumbauer on Thursday. Trumbauer was named the head coach at Black Hills State University earlier in the day.

“We are incredibly happy for Jeff and his family on this outstanding opportunity,” Billeter said. “Even though Jeff will be sorely missed by the Augustana community, we are all proud of him and know Black Hills State has made a very good hire. Jeff’s hard work has put us in a very good position for a number of years to come.”

Trumbauer recently completed his fifth season as an assistant coach at Augustana in 2014-15. He was the top assistant at Augustana for the 2003-04 season before spending six seasons as the head coach at Jamestown College. Trumbauer returned to Augustana for the 2010-11 campaign, and was named assistant head coach prior to the 2012-13 season.   Trumbauer helped lead Augustana to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and three top-five finishes in the NSIC during his time.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to get the chance to lead a program and go to a school with great potential,” Trumbauer said. “It was a very difficult decision because Augustana was and will always be a very special place for me and my family.”
