An auditor’s report is questioning an estimated $26 million dollars in child welfare spending.

The report addressed problems identified with both the Nebraska Health and Human Services Department and Omaha-based nonprofit.

State auditor Charley Jansen says the DHHS has been very cooperative.

DHHS Children and Family Services Director Matt Wallen calls the audit report premature. He says it doesn’t point out many issues they were already addressing.

Among the questioned expenditures was $226,000 in over-payments.
