An attempt to exclude immigrants in the population count used to re-district legislative districts has failed in the Nebraska legislature.
Senator Anna Wishart of Lincoln tells colleagues the bill makes her sad, because it leaves out the human element concerning immigrants. . .
Yet, Senator John Murante of Gretna…the sponsor of the bill…says the measure merely follows the state constitution which requires only citizens be counted. And he issues a warning. . .
Murante though couldn’t find the votes needed to overcome a filibuster.
