Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said the United States and China were scheduled to hold trade talks by phone Thursday with in person negotiations to continue in the near future. American Soybean Association Vice President and Minnesota grower Bill Gordon says that’s positive. He says they’re still awaiting new export business to China but that’s difficult to achieve.
He says ASA officials and soybean growers have been working hard to develop other markets to replace the trade from China.
Gordon says he’s personally made several trade trips pushing for soybean sales.
Gordon says getting the USMCA ratified and a trade deal with Japan finalized would be helpful for soybean growers who’ve been negatively impacted by the trade war with China.
