The Environmental Protection Agency has announced new restrictions for dicamba-based herbicides classifying dicamba as a restricted use product. Under the restrictions, spraying will be limited to only daytime hours and a maximum wind speed of 10 miles per hour. American Soybean Association President Ron Moore says those restrictions will be beneficial.
Another restriction allows only certified pesticide applicators or workers under their supervision to spray dicamba.
Moore says the EPA’s decision is also positive for new products coming onto the market.
The EPA action was prompted by thousands of complaints during the growing season of dicamba injury from drift to neighboring fields not tolerant to the herbicide.
