Global Positioning Satellites was a recent topic of discussion at the House Agriculture Committee. That discussion centered around the Federal Communications Commissions decision to allow Ligado Networks to operate a territorial wireless network and how it will threaten the reliability of GPS. American Soybean Association Vice President Kevin Scott his group is concerned with potential future problems with this allowance and its impact on GPS.
He says ASA and other groups are expressing their concern on this issue and have contacted the FCC but are waiting to hear back.
Scott who farms near Valley Springs, South Dakota says most producers use GPS in some way, shape or form.
Scott says GPS is critical in helping producers reduce their input costs, whether it be with seed or fertilizer. He says other ag uses of GPS include those doing baling or haying work.
