ASA Wants President To Ask For TPA Despite Deadline

Today is the deadline for Trade Promotion Authority and so far President Biden has yet to request that reauthorization. American Soybean Association President Kevin Scott says it’s a critical tool for the President to have.

He says even though today is the deadline there’s still time to get TPA redone however the administration and Congress should act quickly.

Scott says for most trade agreements to get finalized, TPA is a necessary tool to push those over the finish line.

The President does have the option for asking for an extension of TPA. The roots of that fast track measure to back to the Trade Act of 1974. The term Trade Promotion Authority was adopted in the Bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority Act of 2002.
