20 groups including the American Soybean Association want U.S. trade negotiators to push the European Union to give regulatory approval to nine American bio tech traits as part of the Trans Atlantic trade agreement. ASA President and Iowa farmers Ray Gaesser says these traits have been in the E.U. system for the past seven years and they keep delaying their approval.
Gaesser says by delaying those approvals the E.U. is hurting their own consumers and producers as well as producers from the United States and other countries wanting to trade with them.
Gaesser adds that included in the bio tech traits are high Oleic soybeans which have been proven to provide health benefits to consumers.
