Chinese trade representatives are calling on United States trade officials to get back to the negotiating table. Both sides want a resolution to the trade war that is escalating. Following President Trump’s additional tariffs on China, the Asian nation retaliated this week with tariffs of their own. American Soybean Association Vice President and Minnesota grower Bill Gordon says it’s critical negotiators remain calm and proceed with resolution discussions.
China and the U.S. are scheduled next month to meet in Washington D.C. for further trade discussions. Gordon says the sooner they can get going on those the better.
Gordon says while they want an end to the trade dispute with China, ASA officials are continuing to work to find new market opportunities for America’s soybean growers.
Starting on September 1, close to $112 billion in U.S. goods will be hit by a 15 percent tariff from China on products that range from clothing and footwear to televisions and Christmas decorations.
