American Soybean Association Vice President Bill Gordon just back from a trade trip to Indonesia and Thailand says he’s encouraged by the progress President Donald Trump made at the G-20 summit reaching a truce in the current trade war with China. He says the more opportunity there is to talk, the better chance at reaching a future agreement workable for both sides.
He says while all trade deals are critical for U.S. agriculture, reaching some type of resolution with China is one of the most important things that needs to be done.
Gordon says while the trade war has hurt U.S. agriculture, it’s still important for the U.S. to be able to protect its businesses and that’s what President Trump is attempting to do.
Gordon says the U.S. needs to focus on other trade pacts as well including getting a bilateral deal with Japan and possibly working something out with the European Union. He adds that both Thailand and Indonesia pose great possibilities for buying U.S. soybeans.
