The European Commission announced this week that conservation practices required for U.S. soybean production now meets European Union standards for their biodiesel. American Soybean Association Vice President and Minnesota grower Bill Gordon says that will allow more American soybeans into the E.U. to be used for their biodiesel.
He’s hoping that the E.U. Commission decision on letting more American soybeans in will lead to more loosening of their regulations and lead to a solid U.S. E.U. free trade agreement that includes agriculture.
Gordon says the E.U. needs to import much of its soybeans for its biodiesel and other uses so this is a great opportunity for the U.S. to capture more of that market.
The E.U. Commission’s decision will remain in place through at least July 1 of 2021.
