United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer is giving China until March 1 to come to some type of resolution over the trade war or he says the U.S. will place more tariffs on them. American Soybean Association Vice President Bill Gordon who farms near Worthington, Minnesota says they’re remaining hopeful China comes to a deal with the U.S. before the March deadline.

He says the difficulty for U.S. soybean growers for having a March deadline is that the Chinese market becomes competitive at that time because South American soybeans are becoming available for export.

Gordon says while most farmers understand China needs to be held accountable on trade, they’ve been feeling the brunt of the trade war that’s been coupled with yield problems and in some states getting the crop out of the field.

Gordon says it’s positive the administration is working to diversify market opportunities for farmers and ranchers and believes that’ll help in the long run.
