American agriculture groups are expressing cautious optimism about the Phase one agreement reached Friday between the U.S. and China on the trade war. While the deal has yet to be put in writing, the ag groups are hoping for a positive follow through. American Soybean Association Vice President and Minnesota grower Bill Gordon says he’s glad there’s finally a positive move on resolving the dispute.
He says the 40 to 50 billion dollars worth of U.S. commodities the Chinese agreed to purchase is just under double what they previously purchased., but that as far as the agreement goes, the devils in the details.
During Friday’s announcement, the administration said the Chinese agreed to address intellectual property rights and currency. Gordon says those are the two biggest issues that needed to be resolved.
The Phase one deal will take three to five weeks to get written down on paper.
