House leaders aren’t expected to take up the farm bill again until June 22 while the Senate is expected to introduce a farm bill on or around June 6. American Soybean Association President and Iowa farmer John Heisdorffer remains hopeful they’ll get a farm bill passed yet this year.

He says his group is mobilizing their members to contact their Senators and Representatives and push them to get the farm legislation completed.

Heisdorffer says the most important thing that must be in the new farm bill is a good crop insurance program.

Heisdorffer says farmers have seen weather extremes this year including drought in some areas and overly wet conditions in others. He says without crop insurance if those conditions persist or worsen, then farmers are left unprotected.
