The Trump administration has not withdrawn from the North American Free Trade Agreement, but just the threat has hurt United States exports. American Soybean Association President Ron Moore says many U.S. customers are already seeking other sources.
He says U.S., Canadian and Mexican negotiators are all resisting modernization of NAFTA.
Moore says there is a great deal of market uncertainty with NAFTA trade talks bogged down, the lack of USDA appointments, and concerns about the future of the U.S. and Korean FTA.
The U.S. Grains Council has also expressed concern with competitors starting to increase their trade to current U.S. trading partners. Grains Council President Tom Sleight says the U.S. is no longer seen as a reliable supplier.
