This week after President Donald Trump announced another $200 billion of retaliatory tariffs on China to go into effect July 6. The President’s top trade advisor says Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and others are working on measures to protect U.S. agriculture hit by the trade war escalation. American Soybean Association President John Heisdorffer, an Iowa farmer doesn’t think the measures they come up with will help farmers enough to avoid severe economic damage.
Heisdorffer says he’s tried to arrange a meeting with the President to talk to him about the negative effects the trade war is having and will have on America’s farmers and ranchers.
He says most farmers prefer to get their income from the markets rather than depending on the government for payments through various programs.
Heisdorffer says the loss of more than $6 billion on the 2018 soybean crop is a direct result of the trade war escalation.
