This week President Donald Trump met with the President of the European Union and following that they announced the E.U. has agreed to lower industrial tariffs and increase soybean buys from the United States. American Soybean Association President John Heisdorffer, an Iowa farmer says while he’s awaiting details of the deal is excited about the agreement.
He says while he’s appreciative of the President’s tariff rescue package, he’s happier about the opportunity to export more product.
Heisdorffer says America’s farmers have been suffering a great deal from the trade war and having assistance from the President with this latest trade announcement is encouraging but more needs to be done.
President Trump said that soybeans is a big deal and the European Union is going to start almost immediately to buy a lot of soybeans. European Union President Jean Claude Juncker said the E.U. can import more soybeans from the U.S. and it will be done.
