The American Soybean Association along with NPPC and 91 other groups are urging the parties involved in the West Coast ports labor dispute to resolve their differences as soon as possible. ASA President Wade Cowan says that back log is costing the U.S. its marketing advantage with our foreign competitors.
Besides the effect on soybean exports, it’s estimated the U.S. meat and poultry industries are losing more than 30 million dollars a week. Cowan says that’s something U.S. agriculture cannot afford.
The 93 groups have written an open letter to the Pacific Maritime Association and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union asking them to resolve their differences. The groups have also weighed in with the White House and Congress on the problem.
