United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai is in Europe this week meeting with officials and talking about trade issues. American Soybean Association President Kevin Scott who farms near Valley Springs, South Dakota says he’d like to see Tai convince the Europeans to move ahead with a possible normal and workable trade agreement with the United States.
He says U.S. soybeans work well with the European Union’s biofuels and if progress can be made on difficult issues like phytosanitary and biotechnology then the potential for increased trade is there.
Tai says she’ll take part in intense negotiations to resolve the U.S. E.U. dispute over Boeing and Airbus subsidies. Scott says it’s those type of non ag issues that often times disrupt agricultural trade.
Scott says one of Tai’s greatest assets is she’s a good listener and that should help in resolving any possible trade disputes.
