ASA Calls on Senate to Pass Biotech Labeling Bill ASAP

The American Soybean Association has put out an action alert calling on its members to contact their Senators and tell them to pass the biotech labeling legislation. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association President Theresia Gillie says growers must let Senators know that even with the Vermont law taking effect Friday, the labeling bill still needs to be passed so the House can take it up next week and hopefully get it to the President.

She says the labeling issue doesn’t just impact agriculture and consumers, it also hits manufacturing companies.

Gillie says another group that’s effected are those people who need the help of food banks in order to feed their families.

The Vermont state law goes into effect July 1 and the House returns from its recess July 5. Ag groups hope Senators will pass the legislation as soon as possible and the House will follow suit.
