The U.S. Trade Representative’s office announced implementation of the President’s planned tariffs on China won’t happen until December 15 of this year. American Soybean Association Board member Kevin Scott who farms near Valley Springs, South Dakota says hopefully that will give U.S. negotiators time to work out a resolution to the Trade War.
He says positive trade news is badly needed as the current markets are depressed and farmers are struggling to keep their head above water.
Scott says ASA is trying to help producers by working with the administration in developing new export markets and the recent news concerning negotiations on a bilateral deal with Japan is encouraging.
USTR Robert Lighthizer says certain products are being removed from the tariff list on China based on health, safety, national security and will not face the additional tariffs of 10 percent.
