USDA officials rolled out the details of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program this week that provides direct aid to farmers. Applications will be accepted at Farm Service Agency offices starting May 26 and running through August 28. American Soybean Association Vice President and South Dakota farmer Kevin Scott says because the announcement was made in a timely fashion, that will be helpful for farmers.
He says it’s also positive livestock producers are included in the aid package as their industry partners with them.
Scott says farmers were able dealing with depressed markets prior to the pandemic so having some help now is badly needed.
Under the CFAP, there is a payment limitation of $250,000 per person or equity for all commodities combined. Producers will have to certify they meet the adjusted gross income limitation of $900,000 unless at least 75 percent or more of their income is derived from farming, ranching or forestry related activities.
