ASA Asking Senators To Reach Compromise On Labeling Bill

ASA Asking Senators To Reach Compromise On Labeling Bill

American Soybean Association leaders along with a coalition of other ag groups are urging Senate Ag Leaders Pat Roberts and Debbie Stabenow to come to resolution on a biotech labeling bill. ASA President Richard Wilkins says it’s critical the compromise legislation provides clarity for consumers and upholds science based standards for producers.

He says the compromise bill needs to support current technology being used on farms.

Although time is running short for getting a national standard passed before Vermont’s law goes into effect July 1, Wilkins remains optimistic Senators can get something passed.

Wilkins says the national legislation is needed to prevent any chaos, costliness and confusion that many state standards would lead to.
