ASA Asking European Commission to Approve Biotech Soybeans

American Soybean Association leaders sent a letter to the European Commission asking them to give quick approval to three outstanding biotech soybean traits. They include Monsanto’s dicamba tolerant Roundup Ready 2 Xtend and Visitive Gold high oleic traits, as well as Bayer Crop Science’s Balance Bean trait. ASA President Richard Wilkins says the three have been under review for some time and they need be approved.

He says those three traits are important for Europe’s grain and livestock producers as well as for consumers.

Wilkins says the high oleic soybeans are a very healthy product and there’s no reason not to approve them.

Last year, the European Food Safety Authority expressed positive opinions on the three soy traits and their commission has been dragging their feet on approval since then.
