ASA Anxious To Work With New House Ag Committee Chairman

The Democratic Steering committee has nominated Georgia Congressman David Scott to be the next chair of the House Agriculture Committee. American Soybean Association Vice President and Valley Springs, South Dakota farmer Kevin Scott says he’s not concerned that the new House Ag Chairman is from the South, that his group is willing to work with whoever takes over;

The steering committee selected David Scott over Jim Costa of California on a 32 to 19 vote. Kevin Scott says having that type of support from the steering group should alleviate any concerns about David Scott being the new Chairman.

He says there are so many unknowns with which ag leaders will emerge whether it be in Congress or the new Agriculture Secretary which takes on added importance with the writing of the next farm bill around the corner.

ASA will be holding their winter meeting next week and Kevin Scott will be moving from Vice President of the group to President of the Association. He says they’ll be putting together their priorities for working with the new administration.
