The American Soybean Association and other farm groups have sent a letter to Dannon company leaders in response to their sustainability and non-GMO pledge. It calls for eliminating the use of milk in their yougurt and other products that has been produced by cows that have been fed biotech feed. However, ASA President Richard Wilkins says ag biotechnology is a proven and safe method that actually allows growers to produce their crops in a more sustainable fashion.
He says biotechnology is much more environmentally responsible and sustainable than what Dannon is advocating.
Wilkins says during the past twenty years, biotechnology has allowed farmers to become better environmental stewards.
Wilkins says Dannon is making false marketing claims to boost the sale of its products by saying it’s improving sustainability by turning away from biotechnology.
