The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has stopped the Dakota Access Pipeline from proceeding in North Dakota and ordered a reroute. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement is pleased with this action. ICCI State Policy Director Adam Mason says one of the best outcomes from the Corps decision is a delay of the project for some time.

He says the Corps listened to the environmental concerns put forward by the tribes and residents opposed to the project.

The project has already been approved and started in South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois. However, Mason says ICCI will continue to battle against the pipeline in Iowa in court, assisting landowners with eminent domain concerns.

Energy Transfer Partners of Texas, owners of the pipeline are hoping to ship crude oil from North Dakota’s Bakken fields through South Dakota and Iowa into Illinois.
