The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed its major rehabilitation work on 5 of the 8 locks and dams on the Illinois River. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says the rehab work was badly needed as this is an important route for soybean and other grain exports out to US. Trading partners.
He says having this work done on those locks and dams is important for the top two soybean producing states in the nation, Illinois and Iowa.
Steenhoek says the rehabilitation done now comes at a good time as last week alone, over 73 million bushels of U.S. soybeans were exported, much of that to China which has been ramping up its purchases.
Steenhoek says not only is the lock and dam work now completed, it was also fully funded.
