The Armour School District has received a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to help purchase a brand new fleet of buses. The grant is part of the EPA’s Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA), designed to reduce pollutants related to older diesel engines. Burnell Glanzer is the Armour District Superintendent and says the grant allows for $20 thousand dollars per bus, with four buses in the district to replace.
Glanzer says the grant requires that the old buses be destroyed instead of traded or sold. He says the cost effectiveness of this hefty investment evens out by reducing repair costs.
Glanzer says the Armour School District’s entire bus fleet includes the four buses to be replaced, and the replacement will occur in one large action instead of waiting between bus purchases.
