South Dakota sophomore guard Allison Arens has been named Summit League Female Athlete of the Month for December. 

Arens earns her first career Athlete of the Month award and becomes the second Coyote to earn the award this year. Senior volleyball player Audrey Reeg earned the award in October. 

Arens guided the Coyotes to a 7-1 record through December with wins over the Big Ten’s Illinois and rival South Dakota State. She averaged 20.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Arens scored a career high 30 points against Northern Illinois and then tallied her first career double-double (28 points, 11 rebounds) against Denver two games later. The sophomore also broke a 35-year-old school record for free throws made in a game with 18 against Denver. Arens recorded four 20-point games in the month. 

A native of Crofton, Neb., Arens earned national recognition as the espnW National Player of the Week and a spot in the NCAA’s Starting Five in the final week of December.
