Area Teams Join National Field

A league record six women’s teams and a trio of men’s teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference will be playing in next week’s NAIA national championship tourneys.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the 32 qualifiers and bracket for the 25th annual NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship, presented by Mercy Medical Center and Seaboard Triumph Foods. The event will be held in Sioux City, Iowa, for the 19th-straight season – the longest streak of any current championship host – at the Tyson Events Center from March 9 – 15.

The GPAC has qualified a league record six teams for the event as Morningside, Dakota Wesleyan, Mount Marty, Briar Cliff, Concordia, and Hastings are in the field of 32.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has officially announced the teams and pairings for the 2016 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship. The 32-team event will get underway on March 9 in Point Lookout, Missouri,  with the Championship game on Tuesday, March 15.

Three GPAC teams are in the field of 32 as Briar Cliff, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Dakota Wesleyan have all qualified.
