Farmers have until mid-March to sign up for the 2023 farm program at their USDA Farm Services Agency office. Essentially, farmers have two choices, they can participate in the Ag Risk Coverage or ARC program which protects farmers from revenue loss. Otherwise, they can choose the Price Loss Coverage or PLC program, which protects against a loss of a set price level. Iowa State University Extension Agricultural Economist Chad Hart explains the differences with the two options.
Farmers within the western corn belt suffered from a drought last year, was there a program that benefited farmers more than the other program?
hart says farmers do have the option to participate in both federal government programs if they have farms in different counties.
