Enrollment for the Agriculture Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage programs for the 2021 crop year began this week at county Farm Service Agency Offices. Farmers have until March 15, 2021 to sign up. South Dakota Corn Grower’s Executive Director Lisa Richardson says growers this sign up have more options to consider which will impact their bottom line.

She says her group worked with Senator John Thune in helping get improvements in the ARC and PLC programs that have been implemented for this enrollment.

Richardson says last year’s enrollment saw many producers choosing ARC due to the large amount of prevent plant acres in the state.

ARC and PLC are the key Department of Agriculture safety-net programs that help producers weather fluctuations in either revenue or price for certain crops. USDA says more than $5 billion in payments are in the process of going out to producers who signed up for the 2019 crop year.
