It’s been six years since the doors closed at the privately-owned Appleton Minnesota prison, over 300 people lost their jobs, and Mayor Chad Syltie (SILL-tee) says ripple effects are still being felt. At a community meeting tonight, officials will update residents on proposed legislation for the state of Minnesota to lease and operate the prison:

Syltie says the 1,600-bed prison would help address the state’s shortage of prison space. Governor Mark Dayton opposes the plan.
