Appeal Planned for South Dakota Wind Power Company

The Dakota Power Community Wind Board has decided to appeal the Lincoln County Planning and Zoning Decision to the full County Board of Commissioners. Rob Johnson with Dakota Power Community Wind says they’d like the full Commission to reverse the earlier decision and allow for 5 weather towers.

Johnson says if the full Commission turns down their request they may have to look at appealing the decision to Circuit Court.

Johnson says according to a recent study a 500 wind turbine project that produces 1,000 megawatts of power through a 25 year power purchase agreement would contribute $ 200 million in taxes with 103 million of that going to the local community where it’s built. Opponents are questioning the impact to their property values, and possible environmental issues.
