Legislation to remove the renewable fuel standard’s corn ethanol mandate is expected to be reintroduced in the House this week. The measures is sponsored by Virginia Congressman Bob Goodlatte. His bill would cap the amount of ethanol allowed in gasoline at 10 percent, and leave only the requirement that refiners blend advanced biofuels and cellulosic ethanol. Nebraska Ethanol Board administrator Todd Sneller says it’s a misguided attempt that will discourage investment in advanced renewables.
Sneller says Goodlatte and other ethanol opponents are trying to create confusion in the industry with his legislation which will lead to less investment.
Goodlatte sponsored a similar bill in the previous Congress where he had 82 co sponsors.
