The Senate could take up energy legislation this week that includes a pair of anti-biofuel amendments. One would repeal the RFS, while the other would block USDA funding for blender pumps. Nebraska Ethanol Board Administrator Todd Sneller doesn’t see either amendment getting any traction.
He says the anti-blender pump measure is just an attempt to derail what has been a good and viable USDA program.
Sneller says both of the amendments are being promoted by the American Petroleum Institute and are just a continuation of the numerous attacks on the ethanol industry.
The RFS repeal amendment being carried by Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy needs 60 votes for approval and likely faces an uphill battle. The anti-blender pump funding amendment is being carried by Arizona Senator Jeff Flake who claims it’s a wasteful subsidy for a fuel that damages vehicle engines.
