A Nebraska Department of Correctional Services staff member was assaulted at the Nebraska State Penitentiary on Sunday.

The inmate struck the staff member, punching him in the head. Chemical agents and physical force were used to subdue the inmate. The staff member was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The names of the staff member and inmate will not be released.
