The Minnesota Vikings will break ground this summer on another new home.
The Eagan city council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the team’s plan to move its headquarters in 2018 to a 200-acre site about 12 miles southeast of downtown Minneapolis, where U.S. Bank Stadium will open later this summer for the Vikings to play in.
The Vikings will continue to practice for the next two seasons in Eden Prairie at the cramped Winter Park complex they’ve been housed in since 1981. Training camp will be at Minnesota State University in Mankato through at least 2018.
A zoning change approved by the city will also allow Vikings owners to develop the land to eventually include office, retail, residential, hotel and conference space over the next 10 to 15 years.
