There was another mountain lion sighting in the Omaha metro area this week. Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Fur Bearer and Carnivore Program Manager Sam Wilson says they were called to investigate an area near Elkhorn.
Wilson says there are not aware of any populations of mountain lions in eastern Nebraska. Any lions found here wander from the Rocky Mountains, the Niobrara Valley or the Black Hills but it is very rare that one would come here. However, back in 2003 a mountain lion was found near 114th and West Dodge Road in Omaha. He was captured and lived at the Henry Doorly Zoo until his death earlier this year.
Wilson says the public should also be aware that there have been recent coyote sightings in parts of the state. He says this serves as a good reminder not to approach them and keep an eye on smaller dogs on the edge of town or while in wooded areas.
